HWA RACELAB SIGNS GIULIANO ALESI FOR ITS FORMULA 2 TEAM
  • Giuliano Alesi: "I am overjoyed to be part of this impressive company."
  • Ulrich Fritz: "It is nice to see a continuation of the relationship between Alesi and HWA."

Affalterbach, 28th November 2019 – Dad, Jean Alesi, once drove for HWA. Between 2002 and 2005, the experienced Formula 1 driver plied his trade for the Mercedes-AMG factory team in the DTM, which was managed by HWA. His son, Giuliano, is now following in his father's footsteps and taking one of the two HWA RACELAB seats in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

The 20-year-old showed his talent at an early age: As a 15-year-old, he won on his Formula racing debut in the 2015 French Formula 4 Championship. One year later, on the back of a further two victories in the junior series, he was accepted into the Ferrari Driver Academy, in which the Scuderia supports talented motor racers on their path to a potential career in
Formula 1.

Alesi consistently made progress on the single-seater scene: In 2016, he moved to the Trident team in the GP3 series. He was one of the top drivers in 2017 and 2018, winning four races and finishing fifth and seventh in the overall standings. He then switched to Trident's Formula 2 team in 2019. His best result this season was seventh place in Monza.

Alesi's team-mate in the second cockpit will be Artem Markelov (Russia). From 5th to 7th December, the duo will attend the Formula 2 post-season tests in Abu Dhabi for HWA RACELAB.

Giuliano Alesi (20, France)
"I would like to thank HWA AG for the magnificent reception and for the faith they are putting in me. I am overjoyed to be part of this impressive company. All the employees are already highly motivated and I am looking forward to working with a great team - that is the most important thing for me. I cannot describe how I feel at the moment - I am over the moon."

Ulrich Fritz, CEO HWA AG
"We are delighted to have acquired Giuliano. The relationship between Alesi and HWA was a successful one in the DTM. It is nice to see a continuation of that relationship in Formula 2. There is no doubting Giuliano's enormous talent - it is not without good reason that he is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. He fits almost perfectly into our approach, which is to support young drivers on their route to Formula 1."
