Affalterbach, 10th July 2019 – HWA RACELAB's time in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship comes to an end with races 12 and 13. The team and drivers Gary Paffett and Stoffel Vandoorne are hungry to bid farewell on a successful note at the double-header in New York City on 13th and 14th July. Next season, the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team will take the place of HWA RACELAB and will build on the experience gained by the team.

The team from Affalterbach has seven intense months behind it. After an initial teething period, the rookie outfit has found its feet in the series and enjoyed a high-profile success, in the form of Stoffel's third place in Rome. That podium marked the start of a run of points finishes in all of the European races. HWA RACELAB is already guaranteed to end the season with more points to its name than any other rookie team in Formula E.

The team now has its sights set firmly on topping that result in New York, in order to end the Formula E chapter on a high for HWA. The drivers and crew once again face an unusual challenge: This time, two races will be held on the same weekend. Following race one on Saturday, another practice session is scheduled for 09:00 on Sunday (local time). The grid positions for the final race of the season will then be determined using the standard qualifying format.

The circuit winds 2.37 km around Brooklyn harbour and features a mix of tight corners and long straights. Against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline, the drivers will do battle for the final points of the season on a bumpy surface, some of which is concrete.

Gary Paffett (38, England)
"I am really looking forward to the race in New York, in one of the most breath-taking cities in the world. It is a shame that the season is coming to an end already. These are the final races for us as HWA RACELAB, so it is sure to be emotional. We want to end on a high and finish in the points again. Having two races on one weekend mean our chances of achieving that are all the greater."

Stoffel Vandoorne (27, Belgium)
"This will be my first time in New York and I am already very excited about the city. It is our last race. The season has absolutely flown by. We have learned a lot in the course of time, and want to end the season on a high. It would be nice to finish in the points twice. We have the opportunity to do that, and want to take full advantage of it.“

Ulrich Fritz, Team Principal HWA RACELAB
"New York heralds the final race weekend in Formula E for HWA RACELAB. We are proud to already be confirmed as the most successful rookie team in Formula E history so far. For now, however, we are pleased to experience another absolute top event. The circuit around Brooklyn harbour is another real challenge for driver and car. With a mix of tight, fast corners and several straights, the track will provide suspense and good overtaking opportunities. The key will once again be to remain fully focussed all weekend, in order to end Season 5 with some good results."
