HWA RACELAB CONTESTS FIA FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP WITH TARGETED TALENT DEVELOPMENT
  • 360-degree philosophy in training the drivers
  • Thomas Strick: “Our aim is to mature young drivers into the champions of the future.”

Affalterbach, 22th February 2019 – The maiden voyage has successfully taken place at the Shakedown in Magny-Cours. On March 20-21 the first preseason tests will be held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France, followed by two more tests in April in Barcelona and at the Hungaroring, before the FIA Formula 3 Championship starts in Barcelona on 11th May. Bent Viscaal will have the #10 on his car, Jake Hughes the #11 and Keyvan Andres the #12.

The driver trio will be given holistic training at the headquarters in Affalterbach. With the aid of optimum training opportunities and expert courses, HWA RACELAB will lay the foundations for a successful career in motorsports. The objective is to mould complete racing drivers.

Physical fitness forms the basis, but to be able to keep up at the highest level, the young drivers must also master mental training and the professional handling of social media. Specifically, the drivers will be trained in race engineering and experience as a mechanic so that they develop an understanding of the car. The Formula 2 drivers of Arden Motorsport, with whom HWA will collaborate next season, will also benefit from this 360-degree training.

HWA RACELAB is one of ten teams in the newly established FIA Formula 3 Championship. Thomas Strick, who played a crucial role in the DTM title wins as a race engineer and in setting up the successful customer racing programme in GT racing in a managerial capacity, will take on the role of team principal. A total of 16 races will be held on eight weekends as part of the supporting programme of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Thomas Strick, Team Principal HWA RACELAB
“The involvement in Formula 3 is a new chapter in the history of HWA. We want to bring our long-standing experience as the most successful team in DTM history to this new project and take on the strong competition that will dominate the FIA Formula 3 Championship. Our primary goal is the targeted development of motorsport talents. With our 360-degree philosophy, we give them the opportunity to acquire all the basic skills of a complete racing driver. Our aim is to mature young drivers into the champions of the future.
