HWA AG TO COMPETE IN FIA FORMULA 2 WITH THE HWA RACELAB TEAM FROM 2020
  • After Formula E and Formula 3, HWA now set to enter its next racing series with the HWA RACELAB team
  • Expansion of commitment to promoting youngsters within the FIA Formula Pyramid
  • Ulrich Fritz: "The next step towards completing the 360° motorsport expertise of HWA."

Affalterbach, 16th October 2019 – HWA AG is already represented in the current FIA Formula 2 season: As engineering and technology partner, the company works closely with Arden International Motorsport and supports the BWT Arden team.

In 2020, HWA RACELAB will take the next step and enter the series with its own team. After joining the ABB FIA Formula E Championship (2018/19) and the FIA Formula 3 Championship (2019), this is the third racing series, in which HWA RACELAB will compete as an independent team.

HWA will take over the current BWT Arden entry for the 2020 season. In doing so, it will benefit directly from the experience gained within the previous partnership. As such, the talented young drivers will have access to a professional and competitive package from the outset in the most demanding FIA Formula category for youngsters.

FIA Formula 2 is the next level above FIA Formula 3 in the FIA Formula Pyramid, which is aimed at gradually preparing the talented young drivers for their route to top-class motorsport - ideally all the way to Formula 1. As part of the support programme for Formula 1, races in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, like Formula 3 races, share the bill with the top tier of motor racing.

The latest addition to the commitment will allow HWA AG to showcase the racetrack expertise that was particularly apparent in its many successful years as a Mercedes-Benz works team in the DTM. Since 2019, HWA is once again present in the German touring car series DTM: As part of the joint venture Vynamic, the company is heavily involved in the development and running of the Aston Martin Vantage DTM.

Ulrich Fritz, CEO HWA AG:
"We are looking forward to this challenge in another Formula series for young drivers. Alongside our involvement in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, we are now also represented on the next level of the FIA Formula Pyramid, ensuring a continuous development of talented motorsport youngsters. It is also further evidence of the 360° motorsport expertise of HWA. From the promotion of young drivers and Formula E to the DTM and GT racing, we now cover an incredibly broad spectrum."

Bruno Michel, CEO Formula 2:
“First of all, I would like to thank Gary Horner and everyone at Arden International for their involvement and hard work throughout the years. They have been with us since the beginning. I wish them many successes in their next endeavours. I would like to welcome HWA RACELAB in Formula 2. They are a force to reckon with in motorsport and I am convinced that they will adapt quickly to our championship.”
