Apprenticeship

By undertaking an apprenticeship with us, you are laying a solid foundation for your professional future. Exciting tasks and an optimal training concept await. Find the right racing start for you – with an apprenticeship at HWA!

Our apprenticeship offers a wide and varied range of tasks and is great fun! You don’t just stand at our side and watch what’s going on, you are in the thick of the action.

With us, you can start an apprenticeship as an automotive painter, automotive mechanic or industrial clerk.

We provide an exciting training programme in a fascinating environment. We also help you prepare for exams: To help with preparations for your final examinations, we organise a seminar on exam preparation for you. We support you wherever possible – after all, your future takes centre stage with us.

It goes without saying that we are unable to immediately guarantee you a permanent job once you have finished your apprenticeship. However, if you weigh in and get involved, there is a good chance you will be taken on board!

Have you set and achieved goals during your time at school? Do you play an active role in life at school or in your free time – for example, as a school representative or in a sport club? Then you’ll fit right in. We are looking for apprentices who want to get actively involved and enjoy working with other people. You can find more information on the requirements in the respective job postings.

Find out about our vacant apprentice positions. As our priority is to offer our apprentices outstanding supervision, it is not possible to offer all apprenticeships every year.

We look forward to receiving your application for one of our advertised posts.

Student Internship

Are you still uncertain what profession best suits you, or do you want to know what it is like working with us? On a student internship at HWA, you can get stuck in and start learning from day one.

We offer internships in a wide range of fields. If you attend Hauptschule or Realschule (secondary school), you can do your BORS internship (vocational orientation for secondary school pupils) with us. High school students (Gymnasium) can do their BOGY internship (vocational orientation for high school students). Regardless of what school you attend, it is also possible to get to know HWA AG on a voluntary internship – for example, during the summer holidays. We only offer voluntary internships for one week.

With us, you can choose between a technical or commercial internship.

A technical internship will, for example, offer you insights into the job of an automotive mechanic, automotive mechatronics engineer, automotive electrician or automotive painter. If you intend to start college or university after school, you can also do an internship in our development, design and project management areas, among others.

On a commercial internship, you can get to know the occupational profile of an industrial clerk.

In order to do an internship with us, you must still attend school and be at least 13 years old.

Are you interested in doing a student internship at HWA AG? Then send us your application, specifying what area or profession you would like to explore, and when you would like to do your internship. Please note that we do not advertise positions for student interns, so you will have to apply speculatively.

dare

Dare to be Different (D2BD) is a non-profit association founded in early 2016 by the former DTM and Formula 1 driver Susie Wolff, in conjunction with the the MSA – the British motorsport governing body.

Dare to be Different has set itself the target of encouraging the next generation of young girls to look at technical (MINT) and non-technical professions in the world of motorsport and other “male-dominated” industries, inspiring talented girls and young women to follow this career path – and getting them on the racetrack, of course.

Susie started racing karts at the age of eight. She made her single-seater racing debut in the British Formula Renault series in 2001, making it onto the podium three times. She was nominated for the British Young Driver of the Year Award in 2003 and 2004 and became the first woman to reach the final round of the coveted McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award. After just four races in the British Formula 3 championship, Susie Wolff made her DTM debut for Mercedes-Benz in 2006, finishing her first race in the top ten. She was a fixture in what is one of the world’s most popular touring car series for seven years.

In 2012, she made the step up to the top level of motorsport. Susie became the development driver for the Williams F1 team. In 2014, Susie Wolff was the first woman for 22 years to participate in an official Formula 1 practice session. She caused a stir at the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim, exciting fans and critics alike. Susie completed the practice session in an impressive 15th place, just 0.227 seconds behind her team-mate and 11-time Grand Prix winner Felipe Massa.

After retiring from competitive motorsport, Susie Wolff founded the Dare to be Different initiative in 2016.

In December 2016, Susie was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II for her efforts to strengthen the role of women in motorsport, becoming a Member of the British Empire (MBE).

HWA supports the Dare to be Different initiative, offering internships specifically for young women in MINT occupations. Schoolgirls and young female students are the core target groups.

You can find more detailed information about the initiative here.

Questions about your application
Have we inspired you? Then impress us with your application! We are happy to support you with helpful information on your application documents and our application procedure.

How do I apply?
In order to allow us to process your application and provide feedback as quickly as possible, we recommend a speculative application via our online portal. Our vacancies for apprenticeships are generally posted one year before they start. Our apprenticeships begin at the start of September. For a student internship, we recommend applying two to three months in advance.

What documents should my application include?

  • A cover letter (max. one DIN A4 page), in which you describe why you would like to do your apprenticeship or student internship in the desired area at HWA AG. Use the cover letter to introduce yourself and your strengths.
  • A complete, tabular CV, in which you also present your hobbies, voluntary roles, involvements and special areas of knowledge.
  • Copies of all important references: Your highest school qualification, any vocational training you may already have begun, traineeships (if applicable), and other certificates. If you are applying for a student internship, which is stipulated by the school, please also send us the confirmation of this internship from the school.

You can either upload one complete application document or individual documents. The following file formats are possible: Word (doc, docx), PDF, JPG, PNG, GIF. Individual documents must not exceed 7 MB. Please do not upload PDF or Word documents that are password-protected or write-protected.

What happens after I have applied?
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated confirmation of receipt.

We will look at your application together with the relative department and will provide feedback as soon as possible.

If applying for an apprenticeship:
Have you impressed us and received an invitation to come in for a chat? In an interview with your supervisor from the respective department and the personnel officer responsible, you will primarily discuss your motivation and suitability for the selected apprenticeship. You can prepare by considering why you are well-suited to the respective position. Please consider beforehand any questions you might wish to ask us.

The more thought you have given to which apprenticeship is the right one for you, and why you have made this decision, the easier you will find the meeting.

You will then be given an employment test, which will differ depending on the apprenticeship you wish to do. In it, we will mainly ask questions regarding your general education.
