Comments on the DTM race at the Nürburgring
Christian Vietoris (25, Germany, Original-Teile Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"Next weekend, I'll be driving in my home race. I'm really looking forward to competing so close to my home village of Gönnersdorf. In last year's race at the Nürburgring, I managed a Top Three finish. The track is technically very demanding. We certainly haven't got an easy job ahead of us. However, the Eifel circuit is well known for its changeable weather. If it rains during the race, anything can happen."
Robert Wickens (25, Canada, FREE MAN'S WORLD Mercedes AMG C Coupé):
"I'll be returning to the Nürburgring with plenty of fond memories. It's where I clinched my first DTM victory last year in difficult conditions. I also had success there in various junior single-seater series. We've been working hard over recent weeks to continue the upward trend in performance for the rest of the season. Hopefully, we'll be able to build on our speed at Spielberg and be strong again this coming weekend."
Pascal Wehrlein (19, Germany, gooix Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"The Nürburgring has been a happy hunting ground for me in the past. I've had wins there in both the Formula 3 Euro Series and in Formel ADAC. Last year on my DTM debut at the Nürburgring, I actually finished among the points. In our current circumstances, this track should present us with a bigger challenge than the Red Bull Ring at Spielberg two weeks ago. But it's a challenge that I'm happy to take on."
Paul Di Resta (28, Scotland, DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"I already know the Nürburgring from many DTM races in the past, and I've also driven on it in Formula 1. I'm looking forward to being back there in a car. As a track, it offers a good mix of fast and slow corners. The fans are always enthusiastic and knowledgeable about motor racing too. During the course of the race weekend, you've always got one eye on the heavens. It normally rains in at least one session. I'm hoping that we can continue our positive development and learn more about the car as well as the setup."
Gary Paffett (33, England, EURONICS Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"I enjoy competing at the Nürburgring, but it's a difficult track to drive on. The layout features a lot of slow and medium-fast corners. The track at Spielberg two weeks ago suited the particular strengths of our car more than most. On paper, we can once again expect a tougher challenge at the Nürburgring. The most important thing for us there is to get the maximum out of our package and continue our learning curve. The more we learn together as a team, the better it will be for the remaining races. From my own perspective, I'm hoping to have a better race weekend than the last one at Spielberg. The weather can play a major role at the Nürburgring, so if the conditions present us with opportunities, we have to exploit them to the full."
Daniel Juncadella (23, Spain, Petronas Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"I like the Nürburgring a lot. I had a successful qualifying there last year, and when I was still competing in the Formula 3 Euro Series, I had two race wins in the Eifel. Along with Spielberg, the Nürburgring is one of my favourite tracks on the race calendar. This season, it won't be easy for us there, but as always, we'll do our best."
Vitaly Petrov (29, Russia, DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé):
"Unlike many of the other circuits on the DTM calendar, the Nürburgring is not completely new territory for me. After all, I've competed in Formula 1 there, though admittedly on the longer track layout. Next weekend, I will once again be aiming to learn as much as possible about the track and about my car. I was quite happy with the balance of my DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé at Spielberg. We intend to build on that at the Nürburgring."
Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport:
"Mercedes-Benz and the Nürburgring share a long tradition. Next weekend, however, we can expect a tough challenge at the Nürburgring, as the track characteristics are less favourable to our current car than they were at Spielberg. Nevertheless, we will be aiming to secure the best possible outcome. At the same time, we hope that we can deliver an entertaining race with exciting overtaking and spectacular action for the fans watching at the track and at home on TV."
