Engine Building
HWA AG can be implement the following projects in a very short time with a high technical and personal standard:
- Development, design and calculation of high-performance engines for motor racing and road sports vehicles
- Construction of test and competition engines
- Production of prototype and small series engines
- Quality management according to ISO 9001:2008
- Servicing and maintenance of engines after delivery
- Overhaul and repair of complete engines
- Component development on several flexibly structured component test stands
Project stages: engine development
The following project stages is an example for an engine development:
- Customer discussion re. wishes and feasibility of engine development
- Discussion and definition of specification on the basis of customer requirements
- Preparation of feasibility studies and project plans incl. timetabling and costs
- Calculation and design of engine components using modern computer programs
- Networked simulation calculations for loading changes and mechanics
- Manufacture of prototype engines with rapid prototyping cast components for preliminary investigations
- Construction of first test samples
- Commissioning of test engines on engine test stand
- Carrying out test stand investigations as per specification
- Optimising performance, consumption and durability using automated measurement cycles
- Provision and support of applied prototype engines for initial vehicle testing
- Project management to comply with defined timetable and budget
- Carrying out the necessary certification tests
- Preparing parts lists and manufacturing plans for the production of the engines
- Production of engines in engine production incl. documentation
- Quality assurance of completed engines re. performance and function on test stands
Engine Test Dynos
The Engine Test Dynos consist of
- 3 engine dynos for combustion engines with up to 9000 rpm and a power of up to 830 kW. Static and transient testing possible.
- 1 powertrain dyno for development and endurance testing of complete powertrains with up to 800 kW brake power. High-dynamic simulation of test tracks. Optionally input over electric motors with a power of up to 960 kW for development of gearboxes.
- Several test rigs for selective development of engine components (cylinder head, valve train, oil pumps, water pumps etc.)
To achieve a high measuring quality, various development tools are used, as for example
- Flexible automation systems with different interfaces to car systems
- Modern software for engine application
- Conditioned combustion air regarding temperature, humidity and pressure, for static tests as well as or transient use.
- Comprehensive measurement equipment to record all engine-relevant data
